Atos Jiu-Jitsu is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team started in 2008 by Professors André Galvão and Ramon Lemos. The name “Atos” means “acts” in Portuguese and comes from the biblical “Book of Acts,”Showing the belief that God can do great things through ordinary people.
Since it began, Atos has become one of the most respected teams in Jiu-Jitsu, winning many World Championships in both Gi and No-Gi. The team is known for leading the way in modern Jiu-Jitsu by creating and improving techniques like the 50/50 guard, Choi Bar, leg drag, berimbolo, and lapel guard.
The first Atos team included Black Belt World Champions like André Galvão, Rafael Mendes, Guilherme Mendes, Guto Campos, Claudio Calasans, Bruno Frazatto, Gilbert Burns, Rodrigo Caporal, Ary Frias, and Davi Ramos. Over time, Atos has grown into one of the strongest teams in Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling, attracting top talent from around the world.
Today, André Galvão, a multi-time World Champion in Gi and No-Gi and a member of the ADCC and IBJJF Hall of Fame, leads the team. Atos started in São Paulo, Brazil, but moved its headquarters to San Diego, California, in 2010. Since then, many great competitors have joined Atos, including Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa, JT Torres, Tye Ruotolo, Kade Ruotolo, Josh Hinger, Keenan Cornelius, Kaynan Duarte, Andy Murasaki, Michael Liera Jr., Michael Carbullido, Ronaldo Junior, Joao “Bisnaga” Mendes, Gustavo Batista, Luiza Monteiro, and Lucas Pinheiro.Today, Atos Jiu-Jitsu shares its innovative style with students and competitors all over the world.
